The framed piece shown below is available for purchase from the Gallery of Caribbean Art, Speightstown; phone (246) 419-0858.

The digital image for my art-piece ‘Scars & Feathers’ was created in August, 2023, using a digital photograph of a male model and manipulating it in Adobe Acrobat. Superimposed and blended into the original photograph are digital images of an egret’s wing and stripes in acrylic paint on paper representing facial scars. Hence the title ‘Scars and Feathers.’ I wanted the final image to represent the indigenous peoples of the Americas, some of whom practice scarification and face painting for personal beautification and social status. The final piece also incorporates cotton yarn, surgical gauze, sea glass, plastic beads, feathers, limpet shells from local beaches, natural seeds known as ‘crab eyes,’ from the Arbus precatorius vine, and some from the ‘red bead tree,’ Adenanthera pavonina.
